General School Info: Sprout Academy Green Preschool is located in Southwest Community Center, part of Portland Parks and Recreation, which resides in beautiful Gabriel Park. Sprout is a growing program focused on the learning of eco-minded and sustainable practices such as gardening and enjoying nature-play activities in the park. In Spring of 2010, the preschool passed a 30-point checklist to become certified Eco-Healthy by the Oregon Environmental Council.

Our gardening plan: Our gardening plan is to garden all year around: planting bulbs, herbs, veggies and fruit.  

This school fundraised for $1,100 to include a Drip Irrigation Kit.

Curriculum

Installation 

Garden Location: Sprout Academy outdoor courtyard
Is it a wall or fence? 5 foot tall Concrete wall and metal fence
What direction does the wall or fence face? 3 potential walls: West, East, and North
How many hours of sun does it receive? Depending on the season: West Concrete wall: 6 hours of direct and indirect sun. East concrete wall: 6 hours of direct and indirect sun  North Fence: very little, mostly in the shade How close is the wall/fence to a water source? 5-20 feet
Installation Plan: Portland Parks and Recreation maintenance crew will install the pockets with bolts. The 2 year old class pockets will be sectioned together and lowest to the ground. The 3 year old class pockets will be sectioned together one tier higher than the 2's. The 4 year old class pockets will be the highest.  
Watering & Maintenance Plan: Each teacher will maintain pockets which includes planting, watering, weeding, pruning, and harvesting with help from their students & family volunteers. The 2's teacher will manage 12 pockets, The 3's teacher will manage 14 pockets, and the 4's teacher will manage 24 pockets.

How we plan to fundraise for our garden:  We have been taking doantions form the community and have raised: $231.
We have applied for a grant to fund the rest ($769)
