General School Info: Paul Cuffe School is a Chicago Public Elementary School (Pre K-8th grade) which is located on the city's south side. The low income rate is around 95%. Our school is dedicated to helping the whole child. Recently we started a Green Committee and had a school wide walk to school.

The Green Committee:
This is a new committee but we are focusing on recycling, starting a school garden, and  making our school environmentally friendly. Our primary classrooms had great success last year recycling glue sticks.

Our Gardening Plan:  I have been hoping to start a Woolly School Garden since I first learned about them. I think the garden will serve as a cross-curricular outdoor classroom and provide invaluable learning for our students. I have been reading about the benefits of a school garden and believe a garden will instill pride and confidence in our students, help give them a sense of responsibility, and will be a lot of fun! The Woolly system will work well for us because it is simple yet it will provide all of the experiences of a school garden.

I am looking forward to starting a garden club in which any student who would like to participate will be invited to do so. We are always looking for activities in which our special education students can participate and they will be very excited about the garden as well. The Woolly School Garden will help us promote good nutrition.

Many of our students do not have yards so if they have any experiences with gardening it would be limited to indoors. It's my hope that students will begin to garden at home as well.
