General School Info: Crawford W. Long Middle School is an urban middle school located in a predominately African-American, low-income area in the southwestern region of Atlanta.  Long Middle School services 598 students in grades 6 – 8, whose ages range from 11 years old to 15 years old.  Ninety-six percent of the students are African-American, 3% are Latino, 1% are White, and 14% are identified as students with disabilities.  Ninety-six percent of students are eligible for free or reduced lunch.  Crawford W. Long Middle School is located at 3200 Latona Drive, Atlanta, GA 30354.

Our gardening plan: Crawford W. Long Middle School’s edible garden will be used as an interdisciplinary teaching tool and a motivator for students, staff, and the community to increase their consumption of fresh, organic vegetables.  We believe that if there is a shift in behaviors concerning food consumption among our students, staff, and the community, all persons involved will live healthier lives, obesity will decrease, and student achievement will increase, and inappropriate behaviors will decrease.
